JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. - In an ongoing effort to provide service members the resources needed to be successful in the private sector workplace, I Corps and Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington have partnered with local industry leaders such as Amazon, Starbucks and Alaska Airlines for a 'Gaining the Corporate Edge' workshop, from 1 to 3 p.m., May 4 at the American Lake Conference Center here.

The Soldier for Life-Transition Assistance Program, or SFL-TAP, coordinated the event as a way to help service members translate skills gained through their military experience to businesses that are seeking men and women to lead their enterprises through the 21st century.

JBLM, I Corps and local business leaders work together to assist transitioning service members, and help local employers connect to professionals who are well versed in a number of skills, to include leadership, team building and resource management.

The workshop's intent is to provide service members a better understanding of the challenges businesses experience during the interview and hiring process. The will also learn about information needed to make concrete, actionable plans for their transition to the private sector.

SFL-TAP is the U.S. Army's transitions program, and it focuses on many issues unique to veterans. This includes understanding veteran's benefits, such as the post 9/11 GI Bill, and defining the skills and education they have acquired over the duration of their careers.
