Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland -- March 14, 2106. The U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) today announced its Inaugural Induction Class into its CECOM Hall of Fame.

The Inductees will be formally honored in a series of events on April 6 -- 7, 2016, in events at APG.

The announcement, made by CECOM Commanding General and APG Senior Commander Maj. Gen. Bruce T. Crawford, includes former commanders retired Lt. Gen. Emmett Paige Jr. and retired Maj. Gen. Robert Morgan; former Civilian Executive Assistant/ Deputy to the Commander of Tobyhanna Army Depot Mason C. Linn; former CECOM Deputy to the Commanding General Victor J. Ferlise; and nuclear physicist and world-renown authority on nuclear-radiation technology Dr. Stanley Kronenberg. Of the five, only Dr. Kronenberg is deceased.

"My intent here is to honor our past while learning lessons for and employing those learned lessons in the future," said Maj. Gen. Crawford.

"Many great men and women have long commented on how we can learn from our past to influence our future," Crawford continued. "CECOM has a storied past full of many contributions to our Soldiers, science and society. Our CECOM Hall of Fame is intended to recognize and preserve the rich history of our organization by giving members of our CECOM team a lasting sense of heritage, honor, pride and belonging."

A series of events will culminate in the unveiling of the permanent CECOM Hall of Fame Exhibit and conduct of an induction ceremony on April 7, 2016, at CECOM's APG campus. The keynote speaker for the induction event will be Gen. Dennis L. Via, Commanding General, U.S. Army Materiel Command (AMC). AMC is CECOM's higher headquarters, located in Huntsville, Alabama.

Lt. Gen. (ret.) Paige holds a unique place in CECOM's history as the only person to have commanded four separate organizations that eventually created the CECOM of today. He was also the first African-American Signal Corps officer to be promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in 1976.

Maj. Gen. (ret.) Robert Morgan served five assignments within CECOM from 1976 to1987. Maj. Gen. Morgan played an instrumental role in appearing before the 1993 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission of 1993 and keeping CECOM and Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, off the BRAC list for 15 years.

Mr. Mason C. Linn is one of only three people to hold the Civilian Executive Assistant/ Deputy position at Tobyhanna since the depot's inception in 1952. From 1970 to his retirement in 1990, Linn served in the #2 role at Northeastern Pennsylvania's largest employer, ensuring its success into the 21st century.

Mr. Victor J. Ferlise was the first-ever civilian to fill the role of Deputy to the Commanding General of CECOM, assuming the position in 1992 until his retirement from federal service in 2007. Ferlise oversaw the development of the Team Fort Monmouth concept and transitioned it into the Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, or "Army Team C4ISR" concept.

Dr. Stanley Kronenberg passed away on December 9, 2000. He was a national force in radiation research, and concluded a career that spanned 47 years, produced nearly 100 papers on nuclear radiation detection and measurement and received 22 patents for his work in that field. His concepts built the foundation for the nuclear radiation detection field and remain valid today.

"CECOM's time at APG is a relative short one," Crawford said. "But CECOM does not begin and end with APG. CECOM stretches back to Fort Monmouth, back to Camp Alfred Vail, back to the Evans Laboratories and beyond. While not the same name, we also stretch back to earlier beginnings in the U.S. Army Signal Corps.

"Many trusted professionals and dedicated Americans have made long and lasting contributions to our nation, our Army and our society through their work here at CECOM. And those contributions won't stop.

"This Hall of Fame is only a small token, a small placeholder where we recognize in such a small way, larger contributions for a greater good," Crawford said.
