Corpus Christi Army Depot's (CCAD) Sgt. Maj. Steven Odom introduced the South Texas Military Facilities Task Force to US Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) Command Sgt. Maj. Glen Vela at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. CCAD Commander Col. Billingsley Garner Pogue III and Sgt. Maj. Odom invited the Task Force to attend the annual Team Redstone Center of Excellence - Advanced Planning Briefings for Industry (APBI), 8-9 March 2016.

As a non-profit organization comprised of communities advocating for local military bases, the South Texas Military Facilities Task Force relies on their own understanding and abilities to highlight the value these facilities bring to the state and nation. CCAD leaders thought the APBI conference would give the task force a chance to see how CCAD's mission fits within the Department of the Army's mission, as part of AMCOM, and how their role in Army aviation fits this year's event theme: "Teaming for Global Collaboration to Enable Responsive, Sustained Readiness."

The annual APBI provides a forum for information exchange and discussion, featuring Team Redstone's core technical capabilities, acquisition needs, science and technology (S&T) programs, and future opportunities with presentations by leaders and subject matter experts. Such exposure could help the task force gain a broader understanding of the impact the depot has, not just in South Texas, but in National security.

Team Redstone includes the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Army Materiel Command (AMC), the U.S. Army Aviation, Missile, Research, Development, and Engineering Center (RDECOM/AMRDEC), the Program Executive Office (PEO) - Aviation, the PEO - Missiles and Space, AMCOM and others.

With a broader understanding of CCAD's role in the Department of the Army's mission, the Task Force can tell anybody just how critical South Texas military bases are to the nation's defense.
