Sergeant Major of the Army Dan Dailey hosted the Invincible Spirit Festival on Thursday, Sept. 3, at Fort Belvoir, Va.

The festival thanked wounded service men and women -- and all military heroes --for their courage and heroic spirit. The festival, open to all military, was an informal, family event and included children's activities, a live performance by the Lt. Dan Band (led by movie-and-television star Gary Sinese), and a barbeque for several thousand guests prepared by celebrity chef Robert Irvine.

The Surgeon General of the Army, Lt. Gen. Patricia Horoho, thanked all of those whose efforts helped to put on the event. She officiated in a push-up contest between Sgt. Maj. of the Army Dailey and Chef Irvine.

The festival also recognized families and caregivers for their steadfast resolve in supporting our military around the world. The festival offered a break from the rigors of medical treatment for the wounded and injured and served as a reminder that they have plenty of support on their road to recovery.

The USO, under the coordination of Elaine Rogers, President, USO Metro Washington, D.C., was the principle sponsor and organizer.
