WASHINGTON (June 11, 2015) - - Force Protection Professionals from all over nation discussed security issues during the annual Force Protection Seminar hosted by the Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region and the U.S. Army Military District Washington's Provost Marshal/Protection Directorate held at the National Defense University, Fort Lesley J. McNair.

More than 400 security experts in anti-terrorism, intelligence, Operational Security (OPSEC), crisis management, cyber defense, metropolitan police department, and other law enforcement agencies attended the annual seminar; some from as far away as Guam.

Col. Steven L. Donaldson, JFHQ-NCR/MDW Provost Marshal, provided opening comments and stressed that the theme this year, "Partners in Preparedness" is meant to highlight the importance of sharing information amongst civilian and military organizations.

"The purpose of the seminar is to not only provide an informative professional development experience that provides participants with security awareness information, but to also provide an opportunity to exchange ideas relevant to force protection in the National Capital Region," said Donaldson.

Topics discussed at the seminar included reviews of the Washington Navy Yard active shooter incident, the Fort Hood active shooter response and a lively discussion on possible threats from Unmanned Aerial Systems.

"We brought together specialists working in antiterrorism, intelligence, OPSEC, cyber defense, law enforcement, emergency management, emergency operations centers, fire and emergency services and to just name a few," said Donaldson. "The desired effect is to create new and enhance already established working partnerships across the huge spectrum of security practitioners, and I think we did that very well.
