FORT CAMPBELL, Kentucky--(May 18, 2015) -- The 922nd Contracting Battalion and Mission Installation Contracting Command-Fort Campbell staff at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, hosted a small business symposium April 21 at the Fort Campbell Sportsman's Lodge.

The event included representatives from: 22 small businesses and more than 75 individuals were in attendance. Also at the symposium were representatives from the Small Business Administration, General Services Administration, University of Tennessee Procurement Technical Assistance Program, 922nd CBN and MICC-Fort Campbell contracting office.

Lt. Col. Robert McDonald Jr., 922nd CBN commander, began the event highlighting the role small businesses provide in fulfilling the Army's contracting requirements and emphasized the Army's commitment to the small business program, and its partnership with the SBA in order to meet the Government's small business goals.

"The MICC-Fort Campbell contracting office could not be successful in accomplishing its mission without the dedication and hard work provided by many of the small vendors in attendance," McDonald said. "I look forward to seeing many of the vendors in attendance names' come across my desk as new awardees of contracts."

Contracting Division Chiefs, Kevin Day, from Supplies and Services, and Viktoria Reed, from Construction, provided a forecast of the upcoming fiscal 2016 contracting requirements to the small business attendees.

Next, Fort Campbell Small Business Administration representative, Rosa Elmore, provided information on several small business programs, such as the 8(a) program, and allowed small business attendees within the program to provide their experiences and perspective on the program's value to their fellow small business owners.

Then, a representative from the GSA provided their mission brief and its reverse auction platform information, and urged attendees to utilize it. Next, a representative from the PTAP provided a summary of the services that PTAC provides to educate small businesses on government contracting. PTAP's mission is to help local small businesses compete successfully in the government marketplace.

Subsequently, the audience members each formally introduced themselves and the organizations and companies they represent. Then, the event transitioned to allow attendees to meet and greet each other and contracting personnel were on-hand to facilitate one-on-one questions and discussions.

Overall, McDonald felt the event was a success, providing any interested small businesses with open resources to assist them in the government contracting market place, and an opportunity to forecast and prepare for their respective companies bids to fulfill Fort Campbell's upcoming requirements, while meeting the members of the 922nd CBN and MICC-Fort Campbell.

"I was truly pleased to see the number of vendors that came out for the small business event," McDonald said. "Many of the vendors that attended have been strong supporters of the Fort Campbell community for many years."
