REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. -- Joining the elite ranks of the Department of Army civilian corps, Kevin J. Bostick was appointed to the Senior Executive Service in a ceremony here, April 17.

The promotion lands Bostick in the top one-tenth of one percent of all Army civilians.

"It's a very difficult cut to make," said John B. Nerger, U.S. Army Materiel Command's senior civilian and executive deputy to the commanding general, who presided over the ceremony. "Not only must there be a vacancy for which you are both eligible and qualified, you must compete with dozens of other highly talented applicants and then go through a rigorous screening and selection process."

Bostick will serve as AMC's deputy chief of staff, G3/4, for logistics integration. In this role, he will be responsible for sustaining the joint warfighter through command and control of supply chain management, depot and National Maintenance Program operations, asset management and distribution, reset, and ammunition/chemical stockpile management.

"Kevin Bostick is the right leader for this critical logistics leadership position at AMC headquarters," Nerger said.

In his remarks during the ceremony, Bostick made a pledge to AMC leadership.

"You won't have to do my job," Bostick said. "I'm going to do my job, which will allow you to do yours. Sir, I got it."

Bostick began his career as an enlisted Soldier, following in the footsteps of his father -- a retired sergeant major. He later commissioned as a U.S. Army officer, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel, before transitioning to the U.S. Army civilian corps. Before his SES appointment, Bostick was the acting deputy G/4 and chief, equipment readiness, for U.S. Army Forces Command.

His appointment to SES, though, means all his accomplishments are behind him, said Nerger.

"From this day forward, what Kevin has done to get here is nice to know, but it is no longer relevant," Nerger explained. "It's now about living up to the potential the Army and all of us see in him, living up to the responsibility of leadership entrusted in him, and serving as a role model for Soldiers and civilians who will look to him for guidance and support, and Kevin will succeed."

Bostick said he was grateful and humbled for his appointment, and does not take the responsibility lightly.

"I know it's an honor and privilege to be selected for SES," Bostick said. "It's been an honor and privilege to serve our nation in uniform and as a civilian for the last 30 years, and I still have a lot of serving left to do."
