Drew Downing, U.S. Army Pacific Command Science Advisor, checks out the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THADD) 5-axis Flight Motion Table during a visit to the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Research, Development, and Engineering Center on Redstone Arsenal, Ala. Jan. 29. The flight motion table simulates all the flight motions that a missile will encounter. The inner blue arm with the seeker in the yellow bucket simulates the 3-axis motion of the THAAD interceptor (pitch, yaw, & roll). The outer (red) arm simulates the motion of the target and lines up the projector in front of the seeker in two axes for the total of five axes. During his day-long visit to AMRDEC, Downing also received briefings on aviation and missile science and technology, and toured other areas of AMRDEC.
