MIHAIL KOGALNICEANU AIR BASE, Romania --The chief of the host nation section of the Romanian Army visited with service members of MK Air Base Nov. 19.
Romanian Col. Ioan Chifu toured MK Air Base facilities, currently under the command of the 21st Regional Support Element of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command.
Since the start of the operation in February of this year, the support staff at MK has moved more than 145,000 service members into or out of Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. This mission is accomplished with the support of the 780th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron of the U.S. Air Force, the Marines of the Black Sea Rotational Force and the Soldiers of the 21st TSC.
Chifu took special interest in the processes used by the staff at MK as they processed Soldiers through for deployment and redeployment.
During the tour, he was able to meet with members of Task Force 16 and 21st TSC. Soldiers from the rank of private first class to colonel explained the process each soldier must go through in order to proceed through the air base on their way to their final destination.
At the end of his tour, he took the opportunity to welcome Marines of the Marine Aircraft Group Afghanistan, commanded by Marine Col. Patrick Gramuglia, as they completed a ten-month deployment.
