Command Sergeant Major Glen Vela was born in Dallas, Texas. He volunteered for service and took the oath of enlistment on 15 January 1985 and, subsequently completed Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Eustis, Virginia.

Additionally, he is a graduate of the Sergeants Major Course Class 55 and holds an Associate's Degree in Applied Science in Administration Management from Excelsior College.

City, Oklahoma. They have two children, Melinda 23 and Andrew 19.
