CAMP CASEY, Korea -- Soldiers from 210th Fires Brigade and 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division joined the citizens of Dongducheon to clean portions of the Shin-cheon River on March 22.
The effort is an annual clean-up sponsored by the city of Dongducheon intended to make a positive impact on the environment and build a strong relationship between Soldiers and Korean citizens.
Dongducheon Mayor Oh Sea-chang welcomed the volunteers to the event and expressed his appreciation.
"Dongducheon is the only city in South Korea in which U.S. Soldiers have contributed to the clean-up of the river," said Oh.
The effort highlights the longstanding and enduring partnership between the military and the city of Dongducheon.
"What makes this different than probably any other post in the U.S. Army is that the city of Dongducheon has an extremely close relationship with the Soldiers who live here," said Col. Tracy Banister, commander, 210th Fires Brigade.
The event is a demonstration of the U.S. commitment to the community partnership between 2nd Infantry Division, the ROK army, and the citizens of Dongducheon, working together as good neighbors to make the community a better place.
