ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. -- A program analyst was named employee of the year by the U.S. Army's Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center, or CERDEC, here, June 19.
Arlene Torres was recognized in the administrative category for her work as a program analyst for CERDEC's Space and Terrestrial Communications Directorate, or S&TCD. Torres supported the Base Realignment and Closure which moved CERDEC labs and personnel from Fort Monmouth, N.J. to APG. She helped relocate 500 S&TCD employees through multiple moves, traveling between Fort Monmouth and APG to provide support to transitioning personnel. Torres also created welcome packets and safety information sheets for employees upon arrival at APG.
"She worked one-on-one with S&TCD employees providing much needed empathy and guidance during this stressful period," according to her nomination package. "She was available no matter her physical location, and employees knew they could call Ms. Torres for their questions and she would provide the answer."
In addition to facilitating BRAC activities, Torres assumed the responsibilities of management internal controls officer last year and was appointed to lead the Operations Division Tiger Team which reviewed and updated S&TCD policies and procedures.
Her accomplishments in 2011 ensured the work of S&TCD continued without disruption, supporting the mission of CERDEC and the U.S. Army.
