ADELPHI, Md. -- The 2011 Adelphi Lab Center Health, Wellness and Resiliency Expo was held Sept. 22 with the theme "Facing the Challenges and Bouncing Back." A 5K run/walk got things started in the morning, followed by ALC Fitness Center members put on a Zumba demonstration in the courtyard.
Exhibitors offered information about physical, financial, spiritual, and emotional health -- and some hands-on healing as well. The Pentagon "Fit to Win" team offered screening for cholesterol and diabetes, and representatives from the American Heart Association and American Cancer Society shared information about healthy lifestyles, prevention and early detection of disease.
Adelphi's Employee Assistance Program and Army Substance Abuse Program teamed up to offer a full program of information to keep your personal life on track. They put "DUI goggles," which simulate varying levels of intoxication, on participants demonstrated the dangers driving while impaired. Quick questionnaires screened for depression and substance abuse, and a financial management consultant offered information about family and personal budget and financial planning.
Also on hand were a nutritionist and a gourmet cook, with healthy eating tips and cooking demos with free samples. Everyone who participated in the Expo was treated to a free, healthy lunch at the Post Cafeteria, and after lunch, Fitness Center members gave a Latin dance demonstration.
