FORT GEORGE G. MEADE, Md. - Army Lt. Col. Thomas M. Fife assumed command of the Baltimore Recruiting Battalion during a change of command ceremony Friday at McGill Training Center.
Col. Ricky Emerson, reviewing officer and commander of the 1st Recruiting Brigade, said at the ceremony that Fife's determination and prior experience as a company commander within the U.S. Army Recruiting Command provide him with the necessary skills to lead the battalion toward greater success.
"Fife knows what it takes to lead a recruiting organization," Emerson said. "He's got the right energy and the right mentality for the job. His can-do attitude and his resiliency gained by his previous experiences are what you need to be successful out here -- attitude and resiliency."
After the ceremony, Fife discussed his expectations for the battalion, encouraging his Soldiers to strive for excellence during their day-to-day operations.
"As Soldiers, we are driven by the warrior's ethos and must stay committed to providing the strength of our nation," he said. "This is the Gladiator team -- one team, one family. If we stay committed to each other and to the mission at hand, we will be the best of the best."
