The U.S. Army 7th Signal Command (Theater) held a change of responsibility ceremony at the Defense Information School (DINFOS) at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland Thursday, February 27. Command Sgt. Maj. Timothy D. McGuire relinquished responsibility to Command Sgt. Maj. Katrina L. Richardson.

Presiding over the ceremony was Brig. Gen. Eric J. Van Den Bosch, Commanding General, 7th Signal Command (Theater), and Deputy Commanding General, Network Enterprise Technology Command. In his remarks, BG Van Den Bosch thanked Command Sgt. Maj. McGuire for maintaining a strong focus on the workforce's well-being during a time of significant change.

“He has wholeheartedly supported my vision for the Command, focusing on improving the user experience, improving cybersecurity, and improving our workforce’s ability to be more effective,” said Brig. Gen. Van Den Bosch.

7th Signal Command Theater Change of Responsibility Ceremony

In his remarks, Command Sgt. Maj. Timothy D. McGuire praised the 7th Signal Command workforce. “As I grew into my role as the Command’s Sergeant Major, I developed an incredible appreciation for our people our Soldiers, Civilians, and Contractors. Without our passionate and professional workforce, we could not provide the network to our customers that allow our commanders to protect and defend our nation.”

Command Sgt. Maj. Katrina L. Richardson is assuming responsibility as the highest enlisted Soldier in the command. CSM Richardson most recently served as the G-6 Sergeant Major for America’s First Corps (I Corps), Joint Base Lewis-McChord. She previously held positions including Command Sergeant Major, 86th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, 11th Corps Signal Brigade, Ft. Bliss, TX; and Command Sergeant Major, 516th Theater Signal Brigade, Fort Shafter, HI.

In her remarks, CSM Richardson thanked BG Van Den Bosch for the opportunity to lead such an outstanding organization. “As you all know, what we do is crucial,” she said. “Our mission is to enable the Army's ability to build, train, compete, fight, and win on a global scale. Without your contributions, the Army could not achieve success.”

The 7th Signal Command (Theater) conducts DoD Information Network (DODIN) Operations in the continental United States (CONUS) to enable all warfighting functions for the Army and Joint Force. Its three subordinate brigades are the 93d Theater Signal Brigade headquartered at Fort Eustis, Virginia; 106th Theater Signal Brigade at Fort Sam Houston, Texas; and the 21st Theater Signal Brigade at Fort Detrick, Maryland.

The 7th Signal Command was activated on 1 July 1975 at Fort Ritchie Maryland and was tasked to oversee and support all CONUS Signal operations, complementing 5th Signal Command in Europe and 6th Signal Command in the Pacific. The Command provided communications, automation, visual information, printing and publications, and records management services to CONUS Army units.

The 7th Signal Command was deactivated on 1 October 1993 and its functional support components were redistributed to Fort Detrick, Maryland and several other posts. On July 22, 2008, the 7th Signal Command was reactivated at Fort Gordon, Georgia as part of the “Grow the Army" initiative.

On September 2, 2021, the Command uncased its flags at Fort Meade, Maryland, establishing a second headquarters element. The Command now executes split-based operations with intelligence, operations, planning, and select special and personal staff functions at Fort Meade, Maryland. The personnel, acquisition, and resource management functions remain at Fort Eisenhower, Georgia.
