A customer smiles after reading that the Fort Knox Commissary will be open on Mondays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning Sept. 12, 2022.
FORT KNOX, Ky. — Officials at Defense Commissary Agency’s Fort Knox store announced today they will start opening on Mondays beginning Oct. 3 to further customer convenience.
New Fort Knox Commissary director Patricia King said they will ease into the change with minimal staffing.
“We will have mainly self-checkout for now,” said King. “If it grows and we have to add cashiers, it’ll become like the other days.”
King said part of the move came from surveys conducted by DeCA officials who have canvassed stores in other zones to determine better ways to serve customers. According to those results, having commissaries open in some capacity seven days a week was a big plus.
“They found it very successful. We want to allow our shoppers, if Mondays are their day to shop, to be able to come to the store,” said King. “Everybody has their preferred shopping day.”
Three stores in another zone have added Mondays to their store hours so far. Three in Zone 27, which includes Fort Knox, will open Monday. Monday hours will be scaled back to 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and self-checkouts as well as one full-service lane will be open for customers.
To further provide service to customers, the Fort Knox Commissary has also restarted Early Bird shopping Tuesday through Sunday, from 8 to 9 a.m.
“A lot of times there’s physical training in the morning and people want to drop by and get something after that; or people will drop their kids off at school in the mornings, and run in and get something,” said King. “It’s not really for full shopping, but people can come and in for full shopping if they want. I just won’t have registers manned until 9 o’clock.
“Everybody is so busy anymore; we’re just trying to give people more convenient options.”
