ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. -- As the Army builds the Army Futures Command, several other Army organizations are taking this as an opportunity to better align themselves within the Future Force Modernization Enterprise. The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Data and Analysis Center merged three existing organizations into one to form the Army's largest in-house analytical capability.
On February 4, U.S. Army Materiel Systems Analysis Activity, formerly a separate reporting unit to Army Materiel Command; Research Development and Engineering Command Survivability & Lethality Analysis Directorate; and Army Research Laboratory Human Research and Engineering Directorate Human Systems Integration joined forces to create one integrated analysis center. Its mission is to deliver objective analysis, experimentation and data across the entire life cycle to ensure readiness today and a more lethal future force tomorrow.
The DAC's highly educated workforce has more than 700 employees; 64 percent have at least one master's degree; 31 percent have a bachelor's degree; and 5 percent have doctorates. The DAC consists of scientists, engineers, operations research/systems analysts, mathematicians and data scientists that are located in 21 locations across 18 states.
"I am incredibly excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for our Data and Analysis Center to provide the critical information that our leaders need to modernize our Army and ensure that we continue to dominate all future battlefields. We have world-class scientists, engineers, mathematicians and operations research analysts laser-focused on the Army's modernization priorities. Just like the three organizations from which we were born -- AMSAA, SLAD and HRED HSI -- we will provide the analytical underpinnings for continuous modernization. We will develop the models and simulations that characterize future technologies. We will deliver the innovative analyses that drive the Future Force Modernization Enterprise. We are all in, and thrilled to be a critical part of the Army Futures Command," said James Amato, CCDC DAC director.
"Bringing these teams together as a new integrated organization directly supports the unity of effort and agility the Army needs in order to modernize. Our staff will dynamically team with FFME programs as they mature from initial laboratory concepts to fielding so we can better empower senior leaders to make more evidence-based decisions. Being able to flex as needed and converge the Data and Analysis Center's diverse capabilities on Army priorities at the best points in a technology's or system's life-cycle will lead to greater capability, more timely development and fielding and more return on investment for our Soldiers," said Dr. Patrick Baker, director, Lethality, Survivability, and HSI Directorate of the CCDC DAC.
"Establishing the Data and Analysis Center creates a tremendous opportunity to improve our support to decisions concerning the acquisition and operational employment of new and improved systems. We will be the premier organization to define program risk, support requirements and trade studies, and complete analyses that integrate performance, sustainment, lethality, vulnerability and suitability results across the materiel lifecycle. I look forward to completing the hard work left to do to fully integrate our teams, and develop more efficient processes to attack the Department of Defense's most difficult problems. I am 'ALL IN' and I hope you are too," said Christopher Barrett, director, Materiel Systems Analysis Directorate CCDC DAC.
