Officers assigned to the Headquarters, U.S. Army Sustainment Command spoke at several Memorial Day events held during the long weekend in the Quad Cities area of Iowa and Illinois.

ASC and other commands and organizations based at the arsenal traditionally provide speakers and other support to veterans and community groups that hold observances during the Memorial Day weekend.

Maj. Gen. Duane Gamble, ASC commanding general and senior mission commander of RIA, was the featured speaker at a Memorial Day observance held May 28 in Orion, Illinois.

Speaking at the Orion Veterans Memorial, Gamble said he was taken aback by the amount of respect the community showed to its veterans, both living and dead.

Col. Bradley Cook, ASC's inspector general, served as guest speaker at a Memorial Day observance held at the All Veterans Memorial at Davenport Memorial Gardens, Davenport, Iowa, May 27.

In his remarks, Cook noted that more than 1.3 million Americans had given their lives in service to the nation He said it would take him more than two weeks of non-stop speaking at a normal pace to recite all their names.
