REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (Nov. 29, 2017) -- Nick Nickles has worked at the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Research, Development, and Engineering Center for 12 years. He currently serves as the UH-60 Black Hawk Crew Station Lead/Program Integrator in the System Simulation and Development Directorate. Nickles is a subject matter expert for the Utility Helicopter-Project Office for future capabilities for the field aircraft using the Black Hawk Engineering Analysis Cockpit. His main focus is to reduce workload and increase situational awareness in the aircraft during flight.
According to Nickles, he supports Army readiness by looking at future capabilities with rapid prototyping of the BHEAC software to support a quicker response to future UH-60M software upgrades. The BHEAC software is agile and adaptive in a way that it is reusable for classroom academics and provides qualification, refresher and sustainment training throughout the Army.
Nickles said that internal and external communication is crucial for the development and success of the program.
"Support and recognition of each and every employee is vital to the fast pace environment in SSDD," said Nickles. "It's important to provide praise for excellent support to the troops during a crew station and their impact affecting Warfighter success is always shared."
"I like that we have direct interaction with the aviators and crew member during each crew station event," Nickles said. "Helping the UH-60M crew members have a better platform and weapon system drives me to work harder and keeps me inspired."
Nickles served for 23 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. Nickles background also includes time as a UH-60 standardization pilot and instrument examiner. He has a Master's degree in Project Management from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and several awards including the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Master Aviator Wings, and Air Assault Badge. He is part of the Army Acquisition Corp, SPRDE Level 3, the Army Aviation Association of America, and the United States Army Warrant Officers Association.
Nickles said that during his off time, he enjoys riding his Harley with his wife, traveling, camping, and watching college basketball and football.
