This week's focus for Antiterrorism month is the Insider Threat.

Insider threat has become more prevalent over the past decade and has become an increasingly common threat within the military that can emerge from our sworn allies and within our ranks.

The Army's response to Insider threat is an increase in awareness training provided through the Antiterrorism Level I training which is accessible by both military and civilians. The training can be accessed here: https://jkodirect.jten.mil/Atlas2/page/login/Login.jsf

Other initiatives include the Army Insider Threat program established in DoD Directive 5205.16. This program covers the 7 insider threat processes:

- Screen the Army

- Clear the Army

- Protect the Networks

- Secure Installations

- Share Information-

- Establish/Operate the Hub

- Train, Report and Respond.

These 7 processes share responsibility across multiple staff components and require a proactive approach to countering the Insider Threat.

Organizations can mitigate the risk by taking actions to deter the threat, detect the threat and respond to the threat.

Deterring the threat occurs when:

-nefarious actors are prevented access to Army information, personnel, and facilities.

-by safeguarding Army information through OPSEC, protecting facilities through the Army

Physical Security program and protecting personnel through the Army Antiterrorism program.

Throughout the entire process, Soldiers can be trained to detect three observables -- behavioral, technical and physical that can further discourage insider threats from occurring.

Soldiers can also take actions to protect themselves, family and friends by adopting easy habits. The easiest is to maintain awareness of social media footprints and exposure.

Lastly, take ownership and do the right thing by reporting suspicious activity to local law enforcement entities.

Further information can be obtained through the unit Antiterrorism Officer or G/S2 officers.

If you see something, say something!

There are three ways to make a report:

- Contact your local Counterintelligence (CI) office
