BGen M.A. Frank was commissioned in 1988 upon completion of Armour Phase Training and arrival for Regimental Duty with The Royal Canadian Dragoons. BGen Frank held several Regimental Command and Staff appointments ranging from tank Troop Leader to being the 52nd Commanding Officer of The Royal Canadian Dragoons from 2008-2010. His external-regimental employment has included tours with the South Alberta Light Horse from 1991-1994, at National Defence Headquarters with J3 Operations as the Bosnia Desk Officer from 1999-2000, as the Commander of the Land Forces Western Area Domestic Operations Detachment in Victoria, British Columbia from 2002-2004 and as the Deputy Commander for the Canadian Manoeuvre Training Centre in Wainwright Alberta from 2005-2008. BGen Frank has significant operational experience beginning with a tour in Cyprus in 1989 as a Troop Leader in Rural Squadron. His second and third operational tours were in Bosnia: first from October 1994 to May 1995 as Battle Captain for A Squadron in Visoko and second from August 1998 to February 1999 as the G3 for the National Command Element in Velika-Kladusa. Col Frank also has two operational tours in Afghanistan. During his first tour he was employed within ISAF Headquarters in Kabul from August 2003 to February 2004. During his second tour he was employed as the Deputy Commander for the Canadian Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team in Kandahar from April to December 2010. BGen Frank attended the Canadian Forces Staff School in 1993, Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College in 1996, Canadian Forces Command and Staff College in 2004-2005 and the National Security Program in 2011-2012. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Military Arts and Science, a Master's Degree in Defence Studies and a Master's Degree in War Studies all from The Royal Military College of Canada. Col Frank was promoted to his current rank upon completion of his last tour in Afghanistan in December 2010. He was subsequently posted to the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command.
