REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (Dec. 23, 2014) -- More than 350 people attended an Aviation Engineering Directorate All Hands Meeting Dec. 15.
Jeff Langhout, Aviation and Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center AED Director, recognized AED's mission and the great job they are doing to support commanders in the field. He gave an account of his recent visit to Washington, D.C. to attend a briefing from President Barrack Obama on government service and leadership, and spoke of the great impact government service is making with its customers.
Langhout shared with the audience that when President Obama stepped on the stage he said 'thank you'. "He said 'I hope you go back to your respective workforces and tell them the President said thank you very much for serving,' " said Langhout.
He reminded the group to take their mission very seriously, but not to take themselves too seriously; get the customer to their finish line; and continue to build customer relationships. "We want our customers to want us on their team, not have to have us on their team," said Langhout.
Maj. Gen James Richardson, commanding general of Army Aviation and Missile Command, also spoke at the event, thanking the AED workforce for their support and acknowledging the positive impact AED has aviators on missions in Afghanistan and Iraq.
"They've got to trust us that we will be there when they need us, all of us. They have to trust that when they pick up the phone with an engineering problem you're going to be there," Richardson said. "We cannot do our mission in Army aviation and missile unless we are integrated with a team that works well together and supports the low man on the ground. That is what AED does every day."
The event also included an award ceremony honoring employees for their years of service and accomplishments across the Directorate.
AED, provides depot and field maintenance engineering and technical support for AMCOM-fielded aviation systems. They provide responsive airworthiness solutions throughout the system life cycle and sustain the leadership and engineering expertise necessary to provide valued products to their aviation customers.
