Record of Decision for permanent stationing of the 2/25th Stryker Brigade Combat Team announced

By U.S. Army Environmental CommandApril 15, 2008

Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. The Army announced today its decision to station the 2/25th Stryker Brigade Combat Team permanently at Schofield Barracks Military Reservation while conducting required military training at sites in Hawaii. The rationale for this decision is published and explained in a record of decision that is available on the worldwide web at www.aec.army.mil.

This decision implements all facets of "Alternative A" of the final environmental impact statement (FEIS) for the permanent stationing of the 2/25th Stryker Brigade Combat Team. This alternative is summarized in the record of decision and described fully in the FEIS. This decision incorporates analyses contained in the FEIS, comments provided during formal public comment and review periods, and an evaluation of the ability of each alternative to meet the purpose and need for the proposed stationing action.

The Army selected Hawaii primarily because stationing the 2/25th Stryker Brigade Combat Team at Schofield Barracks best meets the strategic defense and national security needs of the Pacific Theater. A fuller rationale for the decision is published in the record of decision.
