YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea -- Seoul American Elementary School students took learning out of the classroom and into the sun during Field Day, May 30-31.
The Yongsan Family Park was full of cheers and endless laughter. Many activities were prepared and the spirited event had students rotate through each exercise every twenty minutes. To complete the outdoor fun, the children dined al fresco from sack lunches packed at home.
Outdoor activities provided fun for kids and it was also a great time for students to improve their physical fitness.
Moreover, various activities worked as a perfect medium that stimulated kids' creativity and many other aspects that can only be learned outside of class. Some exercises such as Hippity Hop Relays required kids to compete against each other.While other events like Blindfold Squirts, Sack Relays and Leaky Cup Relays taught students how to be cooperative, how to work as a team.
"All students at Seoul American Elementary School love PE and they look forward to Field Day every year," said Cho Mi-young, school nurse. "I think it is very important for children to learn various physical activities at a young age so they can stay active throughout their life."
Thirty-six people including parents, teachers, Soldiers, Sailors and Marines, made the event special by volunteering as staff members. They were stationed at each activity, providing kids with instruction and safety tips.
"We appreciate all those volunteers … active duty Soldiers, Civilianss, parents, teachers … who helped our SAES students have a great time," Cho said.
