McMaster tapped for promotion, command of Benning

FORT BENNING, Ga. (April 4, 2012) -- The Chief of Staff of the Army announced March 27 the selection of Brig. Gen. Herbert .R. McMaster Jr., for promotion to major general and Command of the U.S. Army Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCoE) and Fort Benning.

McMaster, a U.S. Military Academy graduate, will come to the Maneuver Center from service in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan where he was Commander of the Combined Joint Interagency Task Force -- Shafafiyat, which is part of the International Security Assistance Force there.

He will replace Maj. Gen. Robert B. Brown, who has been selected for promotion to Lieutenant General and reassignment to Joint Base Lewis-McChord to command I Corps there.

The change of command for these two senior leaders is scheduled June 13.

McMaster will be the 53rd Commanding General of Fort Benning and the third general officer to take the mantle of Commanding General of the Maneuver Center of Excellence.
