FORT STEWART, Ga. - The Garrison Commander Award of Excellence panel selected its 2nd Quarter Civilian winners for Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield. The GCAOE award of excellence is awarded on behalf of the Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield Garrison Commander to recognize exceptional individual performance.

Representatives from Fort Stewart’s Resource Management, Department of Logistics, Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, Director of Human Resources, Civilian Personnel and Advisory Center and Equal Employment Opportunity met June 24 to review 24 nominations. Selections were made based on three grade categories.

Quarterly winners will each receive a $500 cash award, achievement medal and a 24 hour time off award for their accomplishment during the next State of the Garrison meeting.

Beverly Carradine-Gilmore, with directorate of human resources was selected as a category one winner. Carradine-Gilmore works with records management and had previously won Employee of the Quarter with DHR. A passionate volunteer and life-long girl scout, Carradine-Gilmore works to ensure that Civilians and Soldiers are familiar with regulations as it relates to publications and records management.

“The award itself is a big honor, being recognized by your peer’s means they believe in you… and I appreciate that vote of confidence,” Carradine-Gilmore said.

Wildlife biologist John Macey with DPW is the category two winner. He along with his teammates in the environmental protection division work to restore and improve the local habitat at Fort Stewart.

“It could have went to anyone because there is nothing that I do that does not involve others… it’s a team effort,” said Macey. “I really enjoy what I do and if a person loves what they do they in turn are more successful.”

Guy Shifflett, information security program manager for garrison information, was selected for category three. Taking care of people and protecting their information is priority to Shifflett.

“I understand the implications of having information get into the wrong hands… it energizes you to do what is right.” “Protecting people’s information and personal identifiable information is what I do.”

Shifflett strongly believes that information awareness is vital to the installation and more importantly protecting people is paramount.

Leaders and supervisors actively promote the incentive awards program and educate employees in regards to their participation according to Stewart-Hunter garrison commander Kevin Milton.

The policy in place supports the Installation Management Command Campaign Plan which helps to build morale and grow highly motivated and productive organizations.
