ROCK ISLAND, Ill.-Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin visited Rock Island Arsenal, Ill., Oct. 4.

The focus of Harkin's visit was the Arsenal Support Program Initiative and upgrades to the Navy Operational Support Center, slated to be dedicated later this month as the Lane Evans Navy and Marine Corps Reserve Center.

The senator was hosted by Army Sustainment Command's Commanding General, Maj. Gen. Yves J. Fontaine.

Harkin received an ASPI overview briefing from Fontaine, ASPI and garrison staff members. The briefing was followed by tours of renovated ASPI manufacturing facilities and current ASPI tenant operations.

The senator's visit also included a tour of the Navy Operations Support Center. His visit concluded with a medal presentation at the National Cemetery to the family of a Vietnam War Soldier.
