JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. (USASOC News Service, Sept. 13, 2015) Capt. James M. Ahn, 29, a U.S. Special Forces Soldier was found deceased after an airborne operation on Sept. 11, 2015 in Mason County, Washington.

He was assigned to the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) headquartered at Fort Lewis, Washington.

Ahn's military education includes the Detachment Leaders Course, Special Operational Detachment Qualification Course, Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape Course, Infantry Maneuver Captain's Career Course, Basic Airborne Course, the Static Line Jumpmaster Course, Military Freefall Course and a graduate of the Special Forces Assessment and Selection Course.

His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Rigger Badge Military Freefall Badge and the Parachutist Badge. He was posthumously awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.
