WASHINGTON (April 16, 2015) -- Col. Mark B. Kelly, Joint Force Headquarters - National Capital Region/U.S. Army Military District of Washington's Inspector General, was presented the Meritorious Service Medal for his service in a number of key positions at the command during the past four years during a farewell ceremony at Fort Lesley J. McNair and hosted by Maj. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan, JFHQ-NCR/MDW commanding general.
During his time at JFHQ-NCR/MDW, Kelly served not only as the command's Inspector General, but also served some of his time as the Deputy Chief of Staff, J/G1. Mentioned during the ceremony, Kelly's expertise in human resources and Inspector General functions, coupled with his leadership, contributed immeasurably to the command's robust Joint and Army missions.
The mission of the Inspector General office is to assess and report to the commanding general, in an unbiased, objective and timely manner on matters affecting mission performance, and the state of economy, discipline, morale, training, and readiness throughout the command.
Kelly is scheduled to depart shortly for an overseas assignment.
