About

Army Federal Advisory Committee Management Program

•The Office of the Administrative Assistant to the Secretary of the Army (OAA) assists in the oversight and management of Federal advisory committees supported by the Department of Defense and sponsored by the Secretary of the Army. The committees provide advice and recommendations to senior Army leadership.

•Seven of the committees are required by law and make independent recommendations on matters relating to Arlington National Cemetery, the U.S. Military Academy, Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, U.S. inland waterways and inland harbors, coastal engineering research, and water resources development projects.

•The two discretionary committees provide independent advice on scientific issues and the Army’s educational programs.

Army Intergovernmental and Intragovernmental Committee Management Program

•OAA also assists in the oversight of Intergovernmental and Intragovernmental advisory committees established to provide consensus, advice, or recommendations to the Secretary of the Army or designee. An intergovernmental committee is any committee composed wholly of Federal officers or employees and elected officers of State, local, and tribal governments, acting in their official capacities. An intragovernmental committee is any committee composed wholly of Federal officers or employees.
