CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait - The 402nd Army Field Support Brigade and the assistant secretary of the Army for acquisition, logistics and technology co-hosted a Materiel Enterprise Dinner Jan. 11 for visiting senior leaders from both commands, showing there is indeed, a single Army Materiel Enterprise "face to the field" in Kuwait.
Distinguished Visitors included: the Honorable Heidi Shyu, assistant secretary of the Army for acquisition, logistics and technology; Gen. Dennis Via, commanding general of Army Materiel Command; Maj. Gen. Harold J. Greene, deputy for the Acquisition and Systems Management Office of the assistant secretary of the Army; Brig. Gen. Elizabeth Austin of U.S. Army Central G-4 (Logistics); and Command Sgt. Maj. Ronald T. Riling, AMC command sergeant major.
Senior Executive Service guests included John B. Nerger, executive deputy to the commanding general, AMC, and Brian E. Toland, command counsel for AMC.
Attending the dinner were U.S. Military personnel and Department of the Army civilians from Joint Program Office Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected; Defense Contract Management Agency; the 402nd AFSB and subordinate units including: Qatar Battalion, Southwest Asia Battalion and Kuwait Battalion; Reset Task Force, 1109th Theater Aviation Support Maintenance Group; 595th Transportation Brigade; 408th Contracting Support Brigade; Joint Robotics; Control Improvised Explosive Device Electronic Warfare; Counter Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar.
Shyu and Via stated that their top priority is the Warfighter. They gave employees an opportunity to ask questions during the dinner.
"Representatives in this room are the Materiel Enterprise. It is incredible what you have accomplished in over the last 11 years of war," Vai said. "On behalf of our team, I want to thank you for what you do every day. Thank you for the sacrifice you make, because you are here and your families are at home."
The distinguished visitors were given a tour of the many warehouses and lots where Army Prepositioned Stock-5 equipment is stored and the former Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Kuwait Southwest Asia site.
During the tour of the former DDKS facility, Col. John D. Kuenzli, commander, 402nd Army Field Support Brigade, briefed Nerger and Toland on current and future plans of storing APS-5 equipment in a controlled environment to reduce maintenance and annual service costs on equipment.
Shyu and Via participated in a promotion ceremony for three 402nd Soldiers: Lt. Col. Rodney Richardson, and Sgts. 1st Class Belinda Winn and Luther Grayer. In addition to the promotion ceremony the duo presented coins to eight Soldiers and four Department of the Army Civilians.
