FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii -- The USARPAC G-8 hosted an "Office Warming" April 5 to celebrate the staff's relocation back to building T-102, located on Fort Shafter, Hawaii after 1-1/2 years in temporary office spaces due to building renovations.
The move to T-102 was accomplished in two phases.
The first phase was to relocate over 70 personnel from the temporary office spaces and the second phase consisted of moving 6 FM Accounting personnel from Schofield Barracks, Bldg 3004. The relocation of the accounting staff marked the closure to the 2010 reorganization and realignment of financial management functions and missions.
The office warming at Palm Circle started out with an introduction of members that were relocated from Schofield Barracks.
"In the world of General Fund Enterprise Business System (GFEBS) and Army Audit Readiness having accounting staff co-located enhances our ability to plan, coordinate and synchronize our resource management efforts," said Col. John T. Vogel, director G-8.
"Almost 2 years after the 2010 reorganization, the FM Accounting & Policy Division is finally collocated with the entire USARPAC G-8 staff at Fort Shafter, reinforcing the One Team attitude. The realignment of FM functions and missions allowed the G-8 to eliminate duplication of effort, streamline business processes, and create a more effective and efficient organization," said Jill Iwamuro, acting division chief, financial management accounting and policy.
"The move from Schofield Barracks to Fort Shafter has provided personal contact with our GFEBS subject matter experts. Being able to walk just right across the hallway and get immediate responses has created added value to the work process," Zora Rebulanan, G-8 accountant.
"This move enabled me to put names to faces," said Kristine McGarry, G-8 accountant. "I've communicated with my counterparts via emails and telephone and had not met them, although we were all on the same G-8 team."
After the introductions Vogel presented awards before starting the potluck. Dishes from the potluck were from all over the world. Members were encouraged to wear the traditional dress from the countries where food originated.
The staff celebrated their cultural diversity with ethnic dishes and dress. Somalia, Hawaiian, German, Japanese, Philippines, Ugandan, Korean, and American cultures were well represented, said Vogel.
"The international potluck showcased our cultural diversity of our great organization. The potluck allowed everyone to meet each other in a social environment," said Sgt. Maj. Gregory Ransaw, G-8 Sergeant Major.
"Being centrally located will enhance our communication. I encourage everyone to get from behind the desk and have face-to-face dialogue," said Vogel.
