TEXARKANA, Texas -- Depot Sgt. Maj. Gregrory E. Tubbs took the time to thank several businesses for their donations to the recent Wounded Warrior Heroes Hunt held in December.
Tubbs, along with Mike Foster, depot forester and Scott Van Zile, installation antiterrorism officer, visited the businesses to present certificates of appreciation.
"This was a big deal for these local businesses to extend help to support our Soldiers," said Tubbs. "I wanted to personally thank them because without their help we could not have pulled off the three day weekend."
Presentations were made to: Subway (located on RRAD); The Downtowner; Starbucks; McAllister's Deli; Outback Steakhouse, First Baptist Church - Moores Lane; Red River Federal Credit Union; Baptist Bookstore; Big Jake's BBQ; Red Wing Shoes and Whataburger.
As the group entered each business, the employees were grateful to receive an certificate on behalf of the depot.
"When RRAD contacted us it was close to the end of the year for funds, but we still wanted to do something to support a great event and a great organization," said Lindsey Taylor, proprietor for Texarkana's Outback Steakhouse restaurant. "We will always do what we can to support the Soldier."
Red River's Wounded Warrior Heroes Hunt began in 2010 with participation from five members of the Warrior Transi¬tion Brigade, Ft. Hood, Texas. In 2011, the depot hosted 15 Heroes from Ft. Polk, La., Ft. Hood and Ft. Sam Houston, Texas.
The Heroes were lodged at El¬liott Lake recreational facility at no cost, courtesy of RRAD's Morale, Welfare and Recreation office.
In addition to the local businesses, numerous individuals volunteered for the hunt. RRAD officials plan to present each volunteer with a certificate of appreciation in coming weeks.
