FORT CHAFFEE, Ark. -- Col. Richard Ott and members of the Deployable Combat Post 2, 412th Theater Engineer Command, had a chance to meet and go over the progress of action plans by various units scheduled to participate in this year's River Assault training exercise during the Mid-Planning Conference here, Feb. 24-25, 2012.

The G3 deputy chief of staff was pleased with the turnout and the enthusiasm of everyone involved. "They came in and with the right attitude, we were ale to get a lot of good work done," he said.

Leaders from the 961st Engineer Battlion, 391st Engineer Battalion and the 317th Military Police Battalion, each had an opportunity to present their confirmation briefings to the deputy chief of staff, meet with their own subordinate units during breakout sessions, and work with the TEC team to complete required paperwork to ensure supply and equipment are available to accomplish their mission requirements.

"There's still some coordination that needs to be done, and we got some loose ends to tie up, but after today, we'll be able to get out in front of what we need to do," Ott said.

River Assault is slated for mid-July and is sure to provide a forum for inexperienced units to brush up on their technical knowledge and skills. "You can take them from a crawl or walk phase, to the point where they're proficient and expected to support a maneuver unit in crossing current...and the great thing about here is all of that is in place," said the deputy chief of staff.
