FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii - U.S. Army Pacific selected its best military and civilian journalists and broadcasters during the 2010 Maj. Gen. Keith L. Ware journalism competition.

The USARPAC competition garnered more than 40 entries in 10 categories from journalists assigned to commands in Hawaii, Alaska and Japan, including several Soldiers deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq.

The Keith L. Ware competition recognizes excellence in journalism and broadcasting and was named for Maj. Gen. Keith L. Ware, a former Army chief of Public Affairs. Ware earned the Medal of Honor during World War II and was killed while commanding the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam in 1968.

This year's competition recognizes work in 20 print, 22 broadcast and three community relations categories.

First-place winners' work in various categories was forwarded to the Department of the Army Public Affairs Soldiers Media Center for consideration in the Army-wide competition. A panel of judges will select the Army's best for submission to the Department of Defense's Thomas Jefferson Awards competition. Winners in these competitions will be announced in spring.

The U.S. Army Pacific 2010 winners are:
