ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Rock Island, Ill. -- Dave VanderHeyden, program manager, Army Family Action Plan, Rock Island Arsenal-Garrison, said quality of life issues are the major focus for the annual AFAP Conference held at Rock Island Arsenal Nov. 9-10.

"As a grassroots process, AFAP allows our most important assets, Soldiers and their Families, the opportunity to influence their own quality of life and standard of living," said VanderHeyden.

The major issues discussed at the conference were: child care, consumer services, entitlements, force support, medical/dental, education, family support, housing, leadership, and civilian employment.

Each issue was discussed by work groups represented by a diverse cross section of community members from the Garrison, delegates, facilitators, recorders, transcribers and subject matter experts.

The official memorandum for record from the AFAP will also indicate issues left unresolved at the installation level and will be forwarded to the AMC Conference for review. Issues in need of further discussion are then forwarded to Headquarters Department of Army Conference for review and possible advancement to the General Officer Steering Committee. AMC conducts a Major Army Command level Conference on an annual basis.
