REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. Aca,!" A Jail Day fundraiser took place on Wednesday, May 19, from 8:30 a.m. Aca,!" 1 p.m. at the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command (USASMDC/ARSTRAT) to raise money to support the commandAca,!a,,cs upcoming Organization Day.

The Jail Day fundraiser, which raised nearly $1,000, will support activities at the command gathering such as childrenAca,!a,,cs events, bingo prizes, and other support requirements.

Employees could throw fellow employees in Aca,!A"jailAca,!A? through the purchase of $5 (for 15 minutes) or $10 (for 30 minutes) offense accusations. Accusations included such typical charges as talking on the phone too often and Aca,!A"because I can,Aca,!A? as well as ones of retaliation, such as employees who were thrown in jail for arresting a supervisor. Many accusations were quite humorous, including charges of too much shopping at the Dollar Tree, supplying too much chocolate to co-workers, and violating the SMDC dress code.

Rachel Howard of the Test and Warfighter Solutions Center served as the bailiff. She kept an eye on who entered the jail and their departure times, issuing parole when appropriate. She also took roll call occasionally, stating Aca,!A"the prisoners are on lock down!Aca,!A?

Many employees volunteered as deputy sheriffs, delivering the warrants of arrest and escorting the accused into the cell.

Immunity bonds could be purchased for $20. The intent of these bonds was to serve as a precautionary measure, to prevent being arrested and subjected to jail. Many people who believed their employees might conspire to lock them up bought an immunity bond. One such purchaser was Col. Lorenzo Mack, Sr., deputy chief of staff, G-3.

However, what many failed to realize was that immunity could be revoked by a higher power, and several members of the leadership wound up arrested after what Mack declared a Aca,!A"false accusation/improper immunity revocation.Aca,!A?

For that charge as well as several others, USASMDC/ARSTRAT Chief of Staff Col. Kendal Cunningham found himself in jail.

Aca,!A"I suppose I will get legal advice from within the gates,Aca,!A? Cunningham said, since Col. Cheryl Lewis, chief counsel and staff judge advocate, was in jail as well.

From within the jail cell, Mack also exercised his prisoner rights, claiming Aca,!A"I need to talk with someone. Who represents the commandAca,!a,,cs Supreme Court' I want to appeal!Aca,!A?

Overall, the event was deemed a success by its organizers.

Aca,!A"SMDC's Jail Day is always a fun-filled event and an excellent opportunity for managers and employees to demonstrate team spirit,Aca,!A? said Phil Patterson of the Future Warfare Center, event organizer and the U.S. Marshall for the day.

The USASMDC/ARSTRAT Organization Day, the beneficiary of the Jail Day fundraiser, will take place July 1 here.
