KLOKOT/KLLOKOT, Kosovo - Mayor SaA...A!a Mirkovic emphasized the success of implementing a decentralized government in this area of Kosovo during his recent inauguration ceremony. The event was attended by several Multi-National Task Force-East Soldiers, including the commander, Brig. Gen. Al Dohrmann.

Dohrmann has attended a number of inaugurations in his area of responsibility to demonstrate the importance of a strong relationship between KFOR and Kosovo municipalities. Relationship building has been an effort of Dohrmann's since arriving in Kosovo in October, 2009.

"I offered my sincere congratulations to Mayor Mirkovic on his inauguration and expressed my desire to develop a positive relationship with his administration as it addresses the challenges and opportunities in the Klokot/Kllokot municipality," Dohrmann said. "Elections are a democratic way to express opinions. I commend the people of this municipality for embracing change and running a transparent process, free of incidents that required KFOR involvement."

The inauguration was significant because of the recent creation of the new Klokot/Kllokot municipality, a sign of progress in Kosovo's transition toward decentralization.

"We will be remembered in history as the first operational team that successfully implemented the process of decentralization," Mirkovic said.

The Mayor stressed the importance of the work ahead of him.

"As we say, the sky is the limit," Mirkovic said. "We have had difficulties, but with the support of the international community, we are up to the task."

Decentralization in Kosovo is an initiative put forth by provisions of the Ahtisaari Plan of 2007.

Multi-National Task Force - East is a U.S. led task force commanded by Brig. Gen. Al Dohrmann. This task force is comprised of nearly 2,200 Soldiers, including Task Force Hellas and Task Force POL/UKR (Polish/Ukraine).
