Juan Rodriguez, WSMR Sexual Assault Response Coordinator opened the event by speaking about the importance of Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month and why building safe and reliable communities is essential.

“We recognize that how we talk about sexual violence significantly impacts survivors, their families, our communities, and society. We also understand that our voices have power and that when one of us does not feel safe or respected we are all affected,” said Rodriguez.

Turner, Cordery, and Liddiard each took turns signing the proclamation after Rodriguez’s presentation.

“If you see something, say something. We are here to help,” said Turner. “Please speak up if you need help.”
