WIESBADEN, Germany - “Burgers … burgers … burgers.”
That was the chant of one customer at the opening of the Silver Spoon’s Burger Bliss on Clay Kaserne Jan. 7, 2021. The burger-loving patron was among a long line of people waiting to sample one of the signature burgers being freshly prepared by the Silver Spoon staff.
“I’m excited that we have this new opportunity,” said U.S. Army Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Christopher Truchon during the ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the facility opening. “I know there are a lot of great burger places right outside the gate here -- and that’s one of the big holes I think we’ve had here on the installation – a place to grab a burger.
“This is a great location,” Truchon added, pointing out that the Silver Spoon is located at the base of the steps leading up to the U.S. Army Europe Mission Command Center – better known as the Shali Center -- behind the Wiesbaden Sports and Fitness Center.
An extension of the Wiesbaden Entertainment Center, the Silver Spoon’s Burger Bliss offers a variety of special burgers including: The Bulls Eye Burger (a barbecue, bacon burger, topped with grilled ham strips and all the trimmings), The Burger Meister (two flame broiled patties served with firecrackers sauce and all the trimmings), The Hamburger Royale with Cheese (a single patty with fried egg added), The Black Jack Burger (black bean patty served with all the trimmings), an Italian Burger (single patty, bell peppers, marina sauce and mozzarella cheese) and a Southwest Burger (served with a special sauce of chipotle mayo, pepper jack cheese, onions and pickles). Also on the menu are cheeseburgers, hamburgers, jumbo dogs, French fries, onion rings, soda and water.
Customers received 50 percent off their orders and a chance to pick up various MWR giveaways during the first days of operation.
“We wanted to do this last spring, but had to postpone it during the COVID-19 response,” said Mark Smith, Wiesbaden Family and MWR Business Operations Division chief.
Smith added that it gives him great pleasure to be able to open another food and beverage operation – particularly during the pandemic -- serving service members, civilians and their families in Wiesbaden. “We don’t have enough food services on Clay Kaserne. This provides another opportunity for the folks to come out here, get lunch and then head back to work.”
“I think this is fabulous,” said Sgt. 1st Class Justin Faucher, 52nd Military Intelligence Battalion. “I wish there were more pop-ups opening up offering a variety of food opportunities for Soldiers. This is beneficial and good for esprit de corps.”
The Business Operations Division chief explained that because the Wiesbaden Entertainment Center already had the Silver Spoon, it was not a major investment to offer the new dining option on Clay. “My goal would be to find something more permanent for this in the future,” Smith said.
“I’m super proud of the team,” Smith added, praising the efforts of the Wiesbaden Entertainment Center, MWR staff, garrison command, Exchange Headquarters and Shali Center leaders in supporting the project.
“It’s fantastic and a great idea,” said Ron Epps of Military Auto Source who was on hand to help support the opening and promote the ongoing Win a Car With MWR challenge. “It’s always hard to find a good burger, and this offers another alternative for the community.”
Silver Spoon’s Burger Bliss is open weekdays (Monday to Friday) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Only cash is accepted at the facility. For the complete menu visit https://wiesbaden.armymwr.com/happenings/silver-spoons-burger-bliss.
