ANNISTON ARMY DEPOT, Ala. -- Last month, Anniston Army Depot greeted its new sergeant major.
Sgt. Maj. Happiness Brown comes to Anniston from Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, where she served as the Operations NCO and G3 sergeant major for the headquarters of Army Materiel Command.
Brown entered the Army in March 2003 as an automated logistics specialist. Her Basic Training was conducted at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and she completed Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee, Virginia, where she was inducted into the Quartermaster Corps.
Following AIT, Brown was assigned to Fort Bragg, North Carolina to serve the 18th Airborne Corps as an item supply manager, storage NCOIC, stock control NCOIC and platoon sergeant.
In 2008, Brown served the 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team’s 3rd Infantry Division as a materiel management NCOIC and Maintenance Management NCOIC.
At Fort Meade, Maryland, in 2011, she served as a recruiter in the Baltimore Recruiting Battalion’s 1st Recruiting Brigade.
In 2013, she served as the capability development NCO for the headquarters and headquarters company of the Combined Arms Support Command in Fort Lee, Virginia.
Following that, she went to Fort Riley, Kansas, in 2014. There, she served as a platoon sergeant for the 526th Quartermaster Composite Supply Company, 1st Sustainment Brigade, and the first sergeant for the G Forward Support Company, 1-18 Infantry Battalion, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team.
In Fort Carson, Colorado, from 2016 to 2018, Brown served as the G4 Supply and Services sergeant major for the headquarters and headquarters battalion of the 4th Infantry Division.
Moving to Huntsville, Alabama, in 2018, Brown first served as G3 Operations NCO, then the G3 sergeant major for AMC.
During her military career, Brown earned several degrees - an associate degree in supply chain management in 2012, a bachelor’s degree in human resource management in 2013 and a master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in human resource management from Excelsior College in 2015.
Brown has been deployed five times - Operation Enduring Freedom; Operation Iraqi Freedom I, III, V and VII; and Operation Spartan Shield.
She is a native of Edo State, Nigeria.
While working, Brown met an Army recruiter who encouraged her to join the military.
“I saw opportunities in joining the Army,” Brown said. “I’ve met people from all around the world.”
Though she has worked in logistics throughout her Army career and has worked with civilians in warehouses and other operations, this is her first assignment at a depot and she looks forward to seeing all the ways the ANAD workforce supports the war fighters.
“This is different. I’ve never worked at a depot,” said Brown. “I want to see what the depot really does and how the work is done.”
