Army Medical Command and the Army Public Health Center are celebrating Women’s Equality Day by recognizing some outstanding Army Medicine Women.
Chanel Weaver, Army Public Health Center chief of Public Affairs and Marketing Division, has been working in public affairs for nearly 20 years. During her career, she has supported the Army Corps of Engineers, 20th CBRNE Command, deployed as a public affairs civilian to Baghdad, Iraq, and over the past few years helped APHC navigate a number of serious public health crises, including Zika virus, Ebola, and most recently the Coronavirus pandemic.
Weaver leads her staff in facilitating professional, coordinated and timely communication products and responses to the Army Office of the Surgeon General, Army Office of the Chief of Public Affairs, and the Department of Defense on important public health issues for Veterans, Soldiers and their Families. She serves on APHC’s Council for Organizational Excellence and was recently recruited by APHC senior leadership to help stand up the organization's Advisory Council on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
Weaver is a native of Baltimore, Maryland, and she earned her high school diploma from Baltimore City College High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication/Journalism from Hood College and she holds a Master of Arts degree in Contemporary Communication from Notre Dame of Maryland University. Additionally, Weaver is very active in her local community, where she serves on the ministerial staff at her church. She believes in giving back, and serves as the president of the Friends of the Baltimore City College Choir, Inc., a non-profit organization that grants scholarships to high school students in the choir who wish to attend college.
