2nd Lt. Chavez Earns 'True Blue' EIB

Lt. Col. Edward Witherell, battalion commander of 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment, pins an Army Commendation Medal on 2nd Lt. Elena Chavez, an infantry officer from Kansas City, Missouri, assigned to Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, during an Expert Infantryman Badge award ceremony at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, Oct. 31, 2019. Chavez earned the medal by being one of only 59 EIB candidates to earn the title of "True Blue" - having completed all 34 tasks with a perfect score throughout the testing.
