CHIÈVRES, Belgium -- Army Command Sgt. Maj. Katrina M. Herzfeld took the U.S. Army Garrison Benelux flag from garrison commander Army Col. Sean Hunt Kuester, signaling her assumption of responsibility as the garrison senior enlisted advisor during a ceremony held May 15 on Chièvres Air Base, Belgium.

Herzfeld, a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gordon, Georgia. In 1991, she returned to Wisconsin as a cable systems installer, having enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve. In 1993, she enlisted active-duty as a personnel records specialist.

Throughout her Army career, she served at installations around the world. Notably, she serves was the command sergeant major for the Special Troops Battalion, 3d ID Sustainment Brigade at Fort Stewart, Georgia.

She also served deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Before assuming responsibility of USAG Benelux, Herzfeld served as the inspector general sergeant major for U.S. Army Japan.

Herzfeld thanked Command Sgt. Maj. Samara Lyn Pitre, the command sergeant major for U.S. Army Installation Management Command-Europe and the prior garrison command sergeant major for USAG Benelux, for her support, and expressed her gratitude to be part of USAG Benelux.

"We are the Army's home," she said.
