VICENZA, Italy (December 4, 2018) -- On Thursday, U.S. Army Garrison Italy will host its annual tree lighting ceremony to mark the beginning of the holiday season.

Festivities will consist of musical performances by local talent, refreshments and entertainment extending holiday cheer to the Vicenza Military Community.

The Vicenza High School and Middle School bands headline the event; they will be playing classic holiday tunes leading up to the tree-lighting. A fixture of the ceremony for years, the bands will spread holiday spirit by performing carefully rehearsed pieces. The high school band will perform under the guidance of recently arrived band teacher Dr. Timothy Black, while Michael James will lead the middle school band.

If the holiday spirit is not enough to keep attendees warm in the evening chill, USO and Vicenza Community Club are partnering to serve hot cocoa and cookies. VCC will also play host to a Holiday Dough Bowl Auction, during which holiday gift bowls and other items will be available for bids. Auction funds will go toward VCC projects, including grants and scholarships for students. The auction will take place from 4:30-6 p.m. in front of the library.

For the younger ones, the Arts & Crafts Center will be hosting holiday children's activities and Christmas crafts in the hours leading up to the ceremony. Activities will take place at the Arts & Crafts Center from 2 to 4:15 p.m.

A special guest will arrive around 5:30 p.m. to help light the tree, and the event will commence at approximately 7 p.m.

All VMC members are invited and encouraged to come out for the event.
