JOINT BASE BALAD, Iraq - Two Marines from the 2nd Maintenance Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group traveled from Al Taqaddum, Iraq to train at the container repair yard here April 19 to 22.
Lance Cpl. Dustin Sievers, of Key Stone, Iowa, and Cpl. Chris Robinson of Mason City, Iowa, trained with Soldiers from the 155th Inland Cargo Transfer Company, a Fort Eustis, Va., based unit, and Iraqi laborers on basic repairs of shipping containers to meet seaworthy cargo container transport standards.
"We learned from the Iraqis and we showed the Iraqis techniques to help better their process. One Team, One Fight!" Sievers said; they were able to share with the Iraqis their best welding practices and better techniques to make their jobs more proficient.
The first two days of training was taught by Iraqi container repairmen at the CRY along with 155th ICTC Soldiers providing supervision during the hands-on training were Spc. Jeffery Reagan, of Chesapeake, Va.; Spc. Eric Poulson, of Monterey, Va.; Spc. Cory Land, of St. Louis, Mo.; and Staff Sgt. Jesus Grajales, of Isabela, Puerto Rico.
The Iraqis trained the Marines on the fundamentals of repairing containers. They taught them on all the common deficiencies they had encountered on containers, door gaskets and small joint floor ceilings.
The last two training days consisted of Soldiers from the 155th ICTC teaching the administrative portion handling paperwork, proper documentation of deficient containers and certification.
The Iraqi labor men and 155th ICTC Soldiers received their training from members of the Coast Guard, on the approved welding practices and share those skills with fellow Coalition troops.
The 2nd Maint. Bn., 2nd Marine Logistics Group is based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
