As Capt. Isis Rosario belts out salsa tunes, Mildred Bodon, a Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center critical-care nurse, dances to the beat of her heritage during the Fort Hood hospital's celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month October 12. Rosario, company commander, CRDAMC Student Detachment, entertained the employees with song and dance during the festivities that recognize the accomplishments of Hispanic Americans who have helped America thrive and become a land of opportunity. Guest speaker for the event was Irene Rojas, a Killeen realtor. The celebration also featured food representing the different Hispanic cultures, as well as other musical entertainers and dancers. Annually, Hispanic Heritage Month is from September 15 until October 15. This year's theme is "One Endless Voice to Enhance Our Traditions."

During Hispanic Heritage Month, the U.S. Army commemorates the long-standing and remarkable contributions that Hispanics have made in building and defending the nation, as well as recognizes the value of diversity and an inclusive environment.

More than 136,000 Hispanic Soldiers are currently serving, which is 13.8 percent of America's Army. Throughout the United States history. In addition, more than 40 Hispanic-American Soldiers have been presented the Medal of Honor, the country's highest military decoration.
