CAMP BUEHRING, Kuwait - Maj. Gen. Terrance McKenrick, deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Central, visited Soldiers from the 420th Engineer Brigade at Camp Buehring, Kuwait, July 1, 2017.

Col. James Groves, commander, 420th EN BDE, and his staff briefed McKenrick on engineer operations and capabilities in the USARCENT area of operations.

"Having a two-hour engagement with Major General McKenrick gave our command an opportunity to showcase the impact our engineers have within Central Command," said Groves. "He was impressed with our overall operational footprint, and was also equally committed to addressing the best way forward."

Maj. Jeremy Howard, chief of operations, and Capt. Casey Granillo, deputy brigade logistics officer, provided McKenrick an overview of the brigades operations, capabilities, engineer requirements and equipment status.

"It was a rare opportunity to sit down with a Major General in an informal setting and discuss our mission," said Granillo. "We all appreciated his willingness and genuine desire to help."

After lunch, McKenrick awarded a coin to Spc. Darrell Johnson, on behalf of USARCENT Commanding General Lt. Gen. Michael Garrett, for his attention to detail, which helped the brigade smoothly transition to the Global Combat Support System-Army.

"It was my first time receiving a coin; which was a great experience," said Johnson.

The brigade, which is headquartered at Camp Buehring, Kuwait, is a combat engineer brigade and has its home station located in Bryan, Texas. The brigade and its subordinate units, the 153rd and 854th Engineer Battalions are comprised of Task Force Spartan Soldiers, who support various named operations in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.

The 420th En. Bde. support includes general engineering, survivability, Quality Assurance/Quality Control, advise and assist operations, geospatial, as well as, acquisition and delivery of materials throughout the U.S. CENTCOM area of responsibility.
