WIESBADEN, Germany -- A U.S. Army color guard from the 52nd Strategic Signal Battalion, 2nd Theater Signal Brigade, marched in a parade May 14, 2017 commemorating the World War I liberation of the city of Orleans, France.
In addition to the parade, Soldiers from the 52nd Strategic Signal Bn. participated in a number of key events designed to strengthen the existing partnership between the unit, the city of Orleans and the French military.
In a speech at the Orleans City Hall, Lt. Col. Daniel Wood, commander of the 52nd Strategic Signal Bn., highlighted the strong bond between the U.S. and France that dates back more than two centuries.
"Both of our nations have forged our strong bond over time -- as far back as 239 years ago when America was fighting for its own independence. Through this cooperation toward a common goal, the Allies stopped the German Army's invasion into France on 11 November 1918," Wood said.
Wood presented the mayor of Orleans with a battalion coin, and later met with a battalion commander in the French Army, further strengthening and enabling the alliance between the two NATO allies.
