FORT BENNING, Ga., (April 27, 2016) -- World War II Heritage Days April 30 and May 1 at Falcon Field in Peachtree City, Georgia, will give visitors an opportunity to experience why the "Greatest Generation" was "great."

The 1940s will come alive from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the 13th annual WW II Heritage Days, sponsored by the nonprofit Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Dixie Wing.

WW II aircraft will be in the sky and on the ground. Vintage cars and military vehicles will be displayed. Allied and Axis troops will be re-enacting battle skirmishes.

"Keep 'em Flying," a 1940s-theme hangar dinner dance will be April 30 from 6 to 11 p.m. A 21-piece big band and an Andrews Sisters-style canteen show will provide entertainment. Attendees are encouraged to wear 1940s style clothing. There will be contests for the best swing dancers will be held.

Although their numbers are rapidly diminishing, WW II veterans and Rosie the Riveters will be present and honored throughout the two days. Some will have memorabilia on display.

There will be a restored Douglas C-47 Skytrain troop transport aircraft named "Placid Lassie," which took part in the June 6, 1944, D-Day invasion of Normandy plus the Market Garden operation in Holland available for ground tours.
